Chavara Mission Syro-Malabar Catholic Eparchy of Kalyan

The Syro-Malabar Catholic Eparchy of Kalyan  is formed to cater the spiritual needs of Mumbai based Syro Malabar Christians. Churches in this diocese include Saint Kuriakose Elias Chavara church located at Dighi near Pune. Chavara Mission Covers the civil districts of Dhule, Nandurbar, and Jalgaon. This is entrusted to the Devmatha Province of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI) congregation and was inaugurated on February 2, 1993 by His Excellency Mar Paul Chittilapilly first Bishop of Kalyan. Mar Thomas Elavanal is current bishop of Kalyan.

Saint Chavara Kuriakose Elias - Miracles - Maria Jose Kottarathil

The miracle that was considered for the canonization of Blessed Chavara Kuriakose Elias was the instantaneous, total and stable cure of the squint eye (esotropia) of Maria Jose, an RCSC girl of age 9 from Pala in Kottayam District of Kerala State in India. Maria visited Tomb of Chavara Achan at Mannanam on 12 October 2007 along with her parents and  squint in her eyes disappearedon 16 October 2007. On 18 March 2014, the miracle was approved by the Congregation for the Causes of the Saints in the Cardinals’ Meeting which leads to the ceremony of canonization on 23 November 2014.

 Maria was born in Pala on 5 April 2005. She was baptized in the St. Thomas Cathedral Church, Pala.  She had the defect of congenital squint (alternating esotropia) in both her eyes. Doctors says surgery was only remedy. Her mother trust a lot in Jesus and she take Mariamol to Chavara Kuriakose tomb in Mannanam which is located 25 kilometers away from her home in Pala. Squint Eye was cured. 

Chavara Kuriakose Elias - Latin or Roman Catholic ?

One of the most discussed topics before canonisation is about rite of Chavara Kuriakose Latin Church in Kerala says he belongs to them becuase Chavara Kuriakose Elias died at a church in Koonammavu near Earnakulam which is under Latin Rite.  Chavara Kuriakose Elias  is well known in Kerala as a Roman Catholic of Syro Malabar Rite. The  mortal remains of Blessed Chavara Kuriakose Elias is located at Mannanam. Mannanam comes under Kudamaloor Parish in Chenganachery Arch Diocese of Syro Malabar Church. Since Mannanam Ashram is run by CMI priests syro malabar diocese also have limited joy. In short entire credit goes to CMI priests who belongs to Roman Catholic Syrian Church.

Relics of Blessed Chavara, Mother Euphrasia arrive at Kakkanad Ernakulam

The relics of Blessed Chavara Kuriakose Elias and Mother Euphrasia arrived at Rajagiri Valley, Kakkanad, the venue of the post-canonisation celebrations. The relics were brought from places such as Mannanam and Olloor, the places where the mortal remains of Blessed Chavara Kuriakose Elias and Mother Euphrasia are interred respectively and from Kainakari in Alappuzha district and Kattoor in Thrissur districts, the birth places of the beatifieds. Relics also arrived from Koonammavu, where Chavara Kuriakose Elias died.
